What you should bring

PLAN OF THE DAY

Day 1: Into the Jungle

Your adventure begins around 9:00 AM, right after breakfast. Your expert guide will pick you up from your guesthouse, and the two-day trek will officially begin.

Starting along the Bahorok River, you’ll gradually make your way into the heart of the jungle. As you explore the rich landscape, your guide will share fascinating stories and interesting facts about the diverse wildlife, trees, and insects you encounter.

A few hours into the trek, you’ll take a break to enjoy some fresh, local fruits in what we call the “5-star Orangutan Jungle Café.” Relax, take in the sights and sounds of the rainforest, and learn even more about the ecosystem and the majestic orangutans that call it home.

As you continue deeper into the jungle, keep your eyes open for incredible wildlife like pig-tailed macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys, the stunning Sumatran peacock and of course the elusive orangutan.

Later, you’ll stop for a delicious Indonesian lunch, complete with a refreshing fruit salad. Afterward, you’ll continue trekking for a few more hours to make your way to camp for the night where your “5-star jungle chef” awaits you with a selection of delicious Indonesian dishes.

Day 2: Deeper into the Wild

After waking up next to the relaxing sounds of the river stream, you’ll have a hearty breakfast and then embark on a 6-hour trek, heading even deeper into the rainforest. As you move further into the jungle, your chances of spotting wildlife increase. While the terrain becomes more challenging, the spectacular views are worth the effort.

At noon, your guides will prepare a simple but tasty jungle lunch on top of a hill, offering breathtaking scenery along the way. By evening, you’ll arrive at your second campsite, nestled beside the Bohorok River. Here, you’ll enjoy another delicious Indonesian dinner, followed by an evening of relaxation, card games, or singing by the campfire under a sky full of stars.

Day 3: Into the Heart of the Jungle

Waking up to the sounds of the jungle is an experience you’ll never forget. After breakfast, you’ll embark on another exciting trek, following the Bohorok River upstream for about 6 hours. Keep an eye out for wildlife—you might even catch a glimpse of wild Sumatran elephants!

As you become more accustomed to jungle life, you’ll take part in preparing a real jungle dinner with your team if you like. Spending your third night by the river under the stars offers a deep relaxation, jungle style experience, with new sounds and sights that come alive in the darkness.

Day 4: Lazy Day and Jungle Taxi

After a well-deserved sleep, you’ll enjoy a lazy morning. Wake up at your own pace, savor a leisurely breakfast, and spend the morning swimming, sunbathing, or just relaxing around the camp.

When it’s time to head back, get ready for 2 hours of pure fun as your “jungle taxi”—traditional tube-rafting—takes you down the Bohorok River. This thrilling ride back to Bukit Lawang is a perfect, exciting end to your unforgettable Sumatran jungle adventure.
