What you should bring

PLAN OF THE DAY

Day 1: Journey into the Jungle

Your adventure kicks off around 9:00 AM, right after breakfast. Your knowledgeable guide will pick you up from your guesthouse, marking the official start of your five-day jungle trek.

You’ll begin your journey by following the serene Bahorok River, gradually entering the dense, vibrant rainforest. As you navigate the jungle, your guide will introduce you to the fascinating ecosystem, sharing captivating stories about the native wildlife, plants, and insects. From curious insects crawling along the forest floor to towering trees overhead, you’ll discover the hidden wonders of this rich, biodiverse environment.

A few hours into the trek, you’ll take a well-deserved break at what we like to call the “5-star Orangutan Jungle Café.” Here, you’ll indulge in some fresh, seasonal fruits while soaking in the sounds of the jungle. Your guide will share more insights into the delicate balance of the rainforest and the orangutans who call it home.

As you trek further into the jungle, keep your eyes peeled for remarkable wildlife, including pig-tailed macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys, vibrant Sumatran peacocks, and with some luck, the awe-inspiring orangutan in its natural habitat.

At midday, you’ll stop for a delicious Indonesian lunch, featuring a refreshing fruit salad. After refueling, you’ll continue trekking through the jungle for a few more hours, heading toward your campsite for the night. Upon arrival, your “5-star jungle chef” will be ready to serve a delightful selection of local dishes, cooked over an open fire.

Day 2: Exploring the Wild Depths

Waking up to the soothing sounds of the river and jungle is an unforgettable experience. After enjoying a hearty jungle breakfast, you’ll embark on a challenging but rewarding 6-hour trek, venturing even deeper into the wild. The further you go, the better your chances of spotting wildlife like gibbons, hornbills, and maybe even a family of orangutans swinging through the canopy.

Although the terrain becomes more rugged and steep, the breathtaking vistas that emerge make every step worth it. Around midday, you’ll enjoy a simple but satisfying jungle lunch at a scenic hilltop, offering panoramic views of the forest below.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your next campsite beside the Bohorok River. Here, you can relax, swim, and soak in the tranquility of the rainforest before sitting down to another mouthwatering Indonesian dinner prepared by your jungle chef. As the night sets in, gather around the campfire with your group to play cards, sing songs, or simply marvel at the star-studded sky, free from the distractions of modern life.

Day 3: Into the Heart of the Jungle

Another early morning wake-up will greet you with the sounds of the jungle coming to life. After a nutritious breakfast, you’ll set off on an exciting 6-hour trek, following the Bohorok River upstream. This part of the journey takes you deeper into uncharted territory, where wildlife sightings become more frequent and the atmosphere grows wilder. You might even be fortunate enough to spot elusive Sumatran elephants during this part of the trek!

As you get more accustomed to jungle life, you’ll have the option to help prepare a real jungle dinner with your guides. This hands-on experience adds to the immersive nature of the trek. Your third night will be spent under a sky bursting with stars by the riverbank, where the nocturnal sounds of the jungle create a whole new ambiance.

Day 4: A Day to Unwind in the Wilderness

On your fourth morning, wake up to nature’s symphony once again. After a relaxed breakfast, you’ll have some free time to explore around the campsite. Keep an eye out for Sumatran monitor lizards, tortoises, and butterflies that flutter around the river’s edge.

Today, the pace slows down as you pack up and trek to a new campsite. As you journey, you might catch sight of deer, boar and even wild bears. Your guide will continue to share stories and knowledge about the forest and its incredible inhabitants.

After setting up camp, you can spend the evening around the campfire, listening to the rhythmic sounds of the jungle. It’s your final night in this untouched paradise, so take the time to soak in the serenity and reflect on your adventure.

Day 5: Jungle Farewell and Fun River Ride

Your final day in the jungle offers flexibility—you can choose a shorter trek or simply relax and take in the sights of the surrounding rainforest. After breakfast, the activities will be tailored to your energy levels and preferences, whether that’s one last hike or enjoying some downtime.

Before you head back to civilization, you’ll be treated to one final jungle lunch. But the adventure doesn’t end there—your return journey to Bukit Lawang will be a thrilling one. You’ll hop onto our “jungle taxi,” a traditional tube-rafting experience, for a fun and exhilarating 2-hour ride down the Bahorok River. Guided by your expert captain, this unique river journey offers the perfect, refreshing finale to your 5-day jungle trek.
