Our Story
Sumatra Orangutours – which is founded by Nabil and Katie, was born out of a shared love for the jungle and a deep passion for preserving its beauty. Nabil, a native of Bukit Lawang, Indonesia, spent years as a jungle guide, finding joy in leading others through the lush rainforests and introducing them to the wonders of Sumatra’s wildlife. Katie, from England, a devoted animal lover with a special compassion for orangutans, first ventured into the jungle as a trekker. It was on one of these treks that their paths crossed, bound by their mutual respect for nature and a shared dream of protecting Sumatra’s fragile ecosystem. Together, they turned that dream into reality by building this company. With their combined skills and passion, they now offer unforgettable trekking experiences that not only immerse you in nature but also support the environment and local communities. Each step they take in the jungle is a step toward conserving the wildlife and habitat they hold dear—and they invite you to join them on this meaningful adventure.
Ricky - Mr. Smile
Hi, I’m Ricky! For over 10 years, I’ve been exploring and guiding through this lush jungle, and it's become my second home. I’ve developed a knack for spotting orangutans—sometimes I can even sense when they’re nearby! My goal is to make your jungle trek an unforgettable adventure, filled with incredible wildlife, hidden wonders, and plenty of smiles along the way. Let’s dive into the wild together!

Hello, I’m Anto! Ever since I was little, I’ve loved watching my mother work her magic in the kitchen, and of course, sneaking in to help whenever I could. That passion turned into a real love for cooking, and now I whip up delicious Indonesian meals right here in the heart of the jungle. Trust me, my 5-star cooking will have your taste buds dancing—especially when you try my all-time favorite dish, Rendang! Can’t wait to cook for you on your wild adventure. Dandy - Jungle Boy
Hey, I’m Dandy! I’m currently learning the ropes to become a jungle guide, so for now, I’m your go-to guy for helping carry bags and anything else you need during the trek. Every day, I’m picking up new jungle skills and working on my English—so feel free to chat with me! I also love to sing and play guitar, and I can’t wait to meet you in the jungle for an adventure…and maybe even a song or two!
Dedi - Orangutan Bodyguard
Hello, I’m Dedi! I absolutely love the thrill of searching for orangutans in the jungle. I often go ahead of the group to scout the area, using my skills to spot them—or sometimes even smell when they’re close! I can recognize the calls of both male and female orangutans, and I know how to track them by finding their nests. Think of me as your orangutan bodyguard—I’ll be here to keep you safe while making sure you don’t miss a thing on this wild adventure!
